On a cool Vancouver morning, Stephen Stow called in at the downtown east side's Union Gospel Mission. He was carrying a large garbage bag and an overflowing shopping bag containing--drum roll, please!--169 pairs of socks! Our plea for a pair of socks for each Sunday in Lent was answered and then some! The font was overflowing.

In the photo you can see some of the bounty with the youngest member of the congregation--Chloe--to the most senior, Elsie, who made her first appearance at around the same age but back in 1928!
