Four intrepid would-be producers of altar linens gathered in the parish hall on Thursday morning. The kettle was boiled, the coffee pot bubbled and we got to work. Sandy snipped and cut out the linen squares. Jenni did amazing work with the iron, pressing the mitered corners before passing them to Martha, who sewed steadily. Bemoaning the fact that the only needles she possessed were of the quilting variety (with little tiny eyes!), Joy started to embroider crosses on each finished purificator. I say each...whilst the other ladies produced a dozen, Joy only managed to embroider two. Taking pity, Jenni gathered up four to take home and embelish with Celtic crosses.
